2 women involved in over four cases of theft arrested

The Delhi Police has arrested two women involved in more than four cases of theft in national Capital. The women arrested are part of a gang in which 25-30 women from Madhya Pradesh came together to Delhi and fammed to different areas in groups of 2-3 to execute theft. These women used to reside under flyovers or low lying areas for 10-15 days and then go back to their villages after committing thefts.

They have been identified as Sanjo (32) and Shabana (20) both residents of district Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.

According to Devendra Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South west district, on October 15, a theft case was registered in Delhi Cantt police station regarding theft of two diamond bangles and a ring.

“Acting on the complaint, several CCTV cameras were scanned in the area which helped police team to trace down an auto-rickshaw who later on told about the accused women. On his instance both the women were caught and two diamond bangles and a ring worth Rs 6 lakh were recovered from their possession. During interrogation both confessed to the crime and their involvement in previous theft cases,” said the DCP.

Explaining their modus operandi the DCP said that this is a gang of 25-30 women, who come together to Delhi and further dissemble to different areas in groups of 2-3 to execute theft cases.

“These women hire autos for a full day and then go to busy market places and malls to steal from handbags of women. Through auto they operate their whole operations. They reside under the flyover or local colonies for the 10-15 days they come for stealing and then return back to their village. They keep jewellery and cash with them and throw away documents and cards in letter boxes,” said the DCP.
