Wednesday, 12 May 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

In an attempt to safeguard its people from the onslaught of Covid 19 pandemic, the Uttarakhand Government has decided to go for mass chemoprophylaxis of its population. Under it every citizen of the state would be given six doses of Ivermectin (12 mg) tablet.

In a letter directed to all chief medical officers (CMO) the chief secretary of Uttarakhand Om Prakash said that a State level clinical technical committee has recommended use of the Ivermectin as a measure to control the effect of Covid-19 infection and reduce the infection from becoming more severe in the patients.

As per the recommendation the district magistrates and the health department would ensure distribution of the medicine. For the adults and children above 15 years of age 12 mg of Ivermectin would be given twice a day for three days and for children aged between 10 to 15 years, a daily dose of 12 mg of the medicine would be given for three days. For children below two years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers this medicine would not be given. The CS directed that the chief development officer (CDO) of the districts would be the nodal officers for distribution of the medicines and packets would be provided to every house.
