US deports former Indian student for cyberstalking

The US authorities have deported a former Indian student of University of Washington in Seattle after he was convicted of cyberstalking and issuing threats on social media to carry out a campus shooting. Keshav Mukund Bhide (24) was deported by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about two weeks ago after an immigration judge ordered his removal from the country, with instructions that he cannot return to the US for 10 years.

Bhide, according to court records, had been arrested last June after police learned of multiple social media threats by a Google user “Foss Dark” which, in the course of investigations, were connected to Bhide and reportedly revealed his intentions to carry out an attack against women on the UW Seattle campus.

Bhide, who had been charged in both state and federal court, was convicted of cyberstalking in King County Superior Court December 11 and sentenced to a six-month suspended sentence. In an agreement with federal prosecutors, the federal indictment for making interstate threats will be dismissed when he departs the United States. UW had already terminated Bhide’s student status in October.
