Asks Pak to bring 26/11 perpetrators to justice
Amid reports that the Pakistan Government has failed to file an appeal challenging the bail granted by a court to lashkar-e-Tayyeba commander Zakiur Rehman lakvi, the United States has voiced its concern and asked Islamabad to uphold its promise to bring the perpetrators of Mumbai terror attacks to justice. “We are concerned by reports that…lakhvi, one of the alleged masterminds behind the Mumbai attacks, was granted bail. Pakistan has pledged its cooperation in bringing the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice, and we urge them to uphold that promise,” State Dept deputy spokesperson Marif Harf said.
“We have worked very closely with Pakistan on counterterrorism. More Pakistanis are victims of counterterrorism, I think than anywhere in the world, so clearly, it’s a shared threat. But when we have concerns like this, we’ll raise them,” Harf said. On Pakistan’s lifting of the moratorium on execution of terrorists and its plans to execute 500 militants in the aftermath of the Peshawar school massacre, she said: “Clearly, this is a decision for Pakistan. It’s not really ours to weigh in on.”
