Turkey raps US plans to talk with Assad, France says it's a 'scandalous gift' to IS

Turkey on Monday slammed a US suggestion that negotiations could be opened with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a political transition in the war-torn country. “There is nothing left to negotiate with Assad and no outcome has been achieved so far from the talks,” Anadolu Agency quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying.

French Foreign Minister laurent Fabius rejected any role for Assad in Syrian peace talks, saying it would be a "scandalous gift" to the Islamic State group. Fabius's comments came a day after US Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged that talks with Assad were necessary to bring the conflict in Syria to an end.
