Thailand’s Army chief on Friday refused to rule out the possibility of a coup to end a months-old political crisis even as embattled premier Yingluck Shinawatra said she would prefer to “die” rather than give in to anti- government protesters.
“I can’t promise whether a coup will happen or not. But I admit that a coup is not right legally. Anyway, all coups were aimed to end the situation,” Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said. “Every problem must be solved using the law. But if it still can’t be solved, we may have to use special means,” he told reporters. The Army was trying to avoid getting to a stage where a coup would even be considered because it is dangerous, Prayuth said. After four months of protests led by the Opposition Democrat Party to force the Government out of office,
Prime Minister Yingluck made it clear that she had no intention of stepping down.
