In a shooting episode at the main gates of the highly-fortified National Security Agency headquarters at Fort Meade in the outskirts of Washington on Monday morning, one person was killed and another severely injured. Two people in a car tried to ram the main gate to enter the NSA headquarters, leading to the shooting by an NSA police officer, media reports said. One officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Some reports said the two men were disguised as women and tried to enter the Fort Meade complex that is home to NSA and other federal agencies with some 11,000 military personnel and 29,000 civilian employees.

“The shooting scene is contained, and we do not believe it is related to terrorism,” said FBI spokeswoman Amy J. Thoreson was quoted as saying more than two hours after the incident that is being probed by FBI along with NSA Police and other law enforcement agencies.
