US President Barack Obama has nominated yet another Indian-American attorney to the key post of US District Court judge for Washington DC.
The nominee, Amit Priyavadhan Mehta, a partner with the Washington-based law firm Zuckerman Spaeder llP since 2010, happens to be the fourth District Court judge of Indian origin to be named by Obama within a space of one year.
The three earlier appointees – Vince Girdhari Chhabria, Manish S. Shah and Indira Talwani – have taken over as District Judges of California, Illinois and Massachusetts respectively after securing Senate confirmation of their nominations in recent months.
Obama, who holds the record in appointing the largest number of accomplished ‘desis’ to high positions in the administration and other public offices outside, had last year named Srikanth “Sri” Srinivasan to the prestigious position of US Circuit Judge for the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
