In the midst of Wednesday’s high drama surrounding the debt deal in US Congress, President Barack Obama found time to receive a special guest at the White House – Miss America Nina Davuluri. Davuluri was clearly excited about the Oval Office meeting, tweeting a little later: “Had the pleasure of having a conversation with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office today!” “Miss America participated in a group photo with the President in honour of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Champions,” a White House official said. Following the photo session, Davuluri, the first Indian-American to win the top American beauty pageant, briefly went round the Oval Office. When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Washington last month, Obama remarked: “Now Miss America is of Indian-American descent. I think it’s a signal of how close our countries are.”
