Major General Gadi Eisenkot was on Sunday appointedas the next Chief of Staff of Israel Defence Forces with PM Benjamin Netanyahu describing him as “the right person in the right place at the right time”.
54-year-old Eisenkot’s appointment was cleared by the Cabinet on Sunday at its weekly meeting.”Gadi Eisenkot is the right person in the right place at the right time. He has been through every track of soldiering and command, is an experienced commander and can lead the Army in the face of the great challenges that surround us,” Netanyahu said. The Government approval came after the Turkel Advisory Committee on Senior Appointments last week gave its nod to Eisenkot’s nomination.
“I wish Gadi Eisenkot great success, and in every respect, his success is our success,” Netanyahu said, who was under intense pressure from Israeli media, which accused him of foot dragging on the appointment of the next Chief of Staff apparently because he was Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon’s candidate.
