Two policemen have been shot dead by ISIS militants in the restive north Sinai, the latest attack carried out by the dreaded jehadist group in Egypt. Two policemen were killed yesterday by militants in the restive North Sinai province, the interior ministry said.
The jehadist group claimed the killings on a Twitter account affiliated to it, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.
In another incident, militants shot a policeman in Fayyoum city which injured him. He was shot while returning home and is in critical condition, a security official said. Egypt has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled the former president Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 by military following massive protests against his rule.
