Acknowledging the “great importance” of Indo-Israeli bilateral relations, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries have agreed to enhance mutual cooperation.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor lieberman on Thursday spoke to his new Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj and “both ministers agreed that the bilateral relationship is of great importance”.
“The fruitful cooperation between the two nations contributes greatly to tremendously important spheres of collaboration, including agriculture, water, research and development and more,” a press statement said.
lieberman also stressed the importance of political dialogue between the two countries and invited Swaraj to visit Israel again. Swaraj had visited Israel as the Chairperson of the Indo-Israel parliamentary friendship group in 2008 when she had described Israel as a “reliable partner”.
Times of Israel in a report on Swaraj becoming India’s foreign minister has said that she is a “strong admirer” of Israel’s former Prime Minister Golda Meir and a “strong fan” of Israel. Earlier, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had talked to Premier Narendra Modi.
