Projecting Donald Trump as the “best hope for America”, a group of Indian-Americans have formed a Political Action Committee (PAC) to mobilise support and raise funds for the Republican presidential front-runner, particularly from within the ‘desi’ community.
A statement put out by the group said the “Indian-Americans for Trump 2016” was registered as a PAC with the Federal Election Commission last week and its sole aim is to garner the support of all Americans, but particularly Indian-Americans, for Trump’s bid to become the next President of the United States.
There was no immediate comment from the Trump campaign on the formation of the PAC. The billionaire businessman has repeatedly stated that he will be “self-funding” his whole campaign, and will not be accepting money from individuals or special interest groups for his presidential bid.
“On realising that the agenda of Donald J Trump for President 2016 is focused on reviving the American economy, rightly bringing America on the world stage, defeating terrorism and establishing peace through strength, many Indian-Americans believe that he is the best hope for America and the right candidate to be the next President of the United States,” the statement noted.
The PAC headed by AD Amar, a business professor with Seton Hall University in New Jersey, said it has also “elected” Anand Ahuja, a New York-based attorney, as its vice-president, Devendra ‘Dave’ Makkar, a businessman from New Jersey, as its treasurer, and Sudhir Parikh, an immunologist and publisher of community publications, as the Chair of its Fundraising and Advisory Committee.
