Hillary will take India relations to new high: Top aide

Published on:

Holding out the promise that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, if elected President, will take US-India relations to a new level, her campaign chief John Podesta launched an Indian-American platform on Sunday to moblise support for her in key States in the run-up to the November election.

As First lady, Senator and then Secretary of State, Clinton has striven to develop a strong relationship between the United States and India, said Podesta, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, as he launched the platform in a Maryland suburb on the outskirts of Washington.

“She helped lay the foundation for the relationship that I had the opportunity to build on when I was working for President Obama, to deepen the relationship with Prime Minister Modi, to get an outcome at the Paris negotiations, and the ambitious clean energy agenda India has set,” Podesta said.

Called “Indian-Americans for Hillary Clinton”, the platform will be tasked to play a key role in States that are expected to

witness close contests and where the

Indian Diaspora can prove to be a critical

swing vote.

Podesta, speaking to reporters, slammed Republican front-runner Donald Trump for his recent mocking of Indian call centre workers and said it was just typical of the disrespect that the New York billionaire has shown to groups across the spectrum.
