CPN-UMl asks Govt to provide security during Nepal elections

Condemning violence allegedly perpetrated by the CPN-Maoist in the name of foiling the upcoming Constituent Assembly polls, the CPN-UMl on Thursday asked the Government to provide full security during the election.

Unidentified persons hurled a grenade during an election campaign by the CPN-UMl in Taplejung district in eastern Nepal on Tuesday, injuring six persons.

“These are criminal activities and we condemn such acts of threat,” said CPN-UMl general secretary Ishwor Pokharel. He asked the Government to guarantee peace and security during the November 19 election.

“We ask those conspiring to attack from behind to come in the battle of free competition,” the CPN-UMl said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The party also asked the Government and the Election Commission to act against those involved in violent activities in order to ensure free and fair polls.

Pokharel called on the CPN-Maoist, which is boycotting the polls, to come forward for a dialogue and to assist in the election process.

He also criticised the Unified CPN-Maoist for violating the election code of conduct and trying to influence voters through what he described  as “misuse of monetary resources”.
