Britain’s ambassador to the European Union, Ivan Rogers has quit his job in Brussels, according to a media report on Tuesday.
A spokesman with the British government also said in a brief statement that “Sir Ivan Rogers has resigned a few months early as UK Permanent Representative to the European Union,” Xinhua reported.
The sudden decision came just weeks after Rogers was accused of damaging Britain’s Brexit negotiations.
Rogers warned that it would take a decade to forge a new trade deal with Europe, saying that was the view of the other 27 member states with the bloc.
Political commentators said the relationship between Rogers and the Government had become strained over the grim warning of a prolonged Brexit.
