louisiana's Indian-American governor Bobby Jindal may well be keeping his political cards close to his chest, but the State’s Republican Senator David Vitter believes Jindal will join the 2016 White House race.
“I think that’s very obvious to everybody who has been paying attention,” Vitter commented on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” on Sunday, when asked if he thought Jindal would throw his hat into the presidential ring in 2016. “I do think he’ll run. I think he’s been running. And I think he’ll be a significant candidate,” the Senator added. Vitter believes Jindal is laying the groundwork for Republican nomination in the run-up to a brutal Republican primary season.
“I like Bobby, I respect his leadership, I agree with all of his political values. But I haven’t thought about what I would do or wouldn’t do personally,” Vitter commented, when asked if he would be supporting Jindal’s candidacy.
Vitter himself is reported to be considering whether to run to succeed Jindal as louisiana’s governor in 2015, given that Jindal, under the state law, will not be able to run for a third term.
