Jeopardising peace talks in Afghanistan, American forces in the war-torn country has taken into custody local leaders close to Afghanistan’s former President Hamid Karzai. According to Aimal Faizi, a former aide to the then President, Karzai told top US military commander in Afghanistan General Miller that the forces’ activities militated against the efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Afghanistan.
“That is why you have intensified bombing, night raids and other types of military operations in Afghanistan,” Karzai told General Miller.
A number of night raids have been conducted on influential local leaders close to Karzai recently. The house of Karzai’s brother in Kandahar was hit by American forces’ rockets and a security guard was killed in the attack in early June.
