At least six persons, including a woman, were killed and 24 others injured on Monday when a lorry rammed into a passenger train at Bangaldesh’s largest railway station.
The fatal accident took place this afternoon at Inland Container Terminal of Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital, Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station told The Daily Star Online.
Two of the victims died on the spot, while four more succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
All the victims of the accident, which derailed a car of the train, were passengers.
As the passenger train from Narayanganj, 219-Narayangaj local, was coming to Dhaka, the lorry defied signal and rammed into the train, said Nazmul Islam, transportation officer of Bangladesh Railway, Dhaka Division.
“It appears that the driver of the lorry lost control and rammed the train,” the news report quoted Islam
as saying.
