10 million Indians want to move to US: Gallup poll

Given an opportunity, roughly 138 million people worldwide, including some 10 million Indians, would like to leave their country and settle in the United States, says a new Gallup poll.

It suggests that the US is the undisputed number 1 “desired destination” for potential migrants from across the world, followed by the United Kingdom (42 million), Canada (37 million) and France (31 million).

Chinese are said to outnumber Indians in dreaming of a life in the US, says the survey based on interviews with a little over 500,000 people in 154 countries between 2010 and 2012. According to it, some 19 million Chinese are ready to move into the US. So it is for 13 million Nigerians. Pakistanis, on the other hand, are not all that enamoured of the US. They would much rather relocate to Saudi Arabia and the UK. And for Iranians, the preferred destinations would be Jordan and lebanon.

“This is not surprising, as Iranians and Pakistanis have some of the lowest US leadership approval ratings in the world,” says Gallup.
