At least one child was killed and four others were injured on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling in hit an improvised explosive device (IED) in Pakistan’s restive northwest tribal region.

A vehicle carrying four students to nearby private school hit the remote-controlled bomb in Arang Tehsil of the Bajaur Agency killing one on the spot and injuring others, officials said.

The area was cordoned off by security forces to conduct a search operation after the attack.

At least 12 suspects were taken into custody for interrogation related to this incident, official sources said.

Police officials and local people immediately reached the site and shifted the wounded to the Agency headquarters hospital Khar for treatment.
