Actress Padmini Kolhapure talks about her clothing line Padmasitaa, a handcrafted vintage label with Unnati Joshi
The next door girl Padmini Kolhapure stepped into the world of acting at the age of seven and marked her debut as a leading lady in movies as a teenager. But she believes that everything came her way by chance.
“In my entire career or my life per say, nothing was planned. Whatever has happened is purely by God’s grace. My journey has been fabulous and there are no regrets. I don’t think or plan too much. I just go with the flow,” she told us.
This surrender to destiny’s plans has turned her into a designer now. She has forayed into the world of fashion with her friend Sita Talwalkar and their designer label, Padmasitaa. It has been formed with the motive to keep alive the artisans and karigars who carry on the legacy of handcrafted vintage embroidery from the heart of India.
“I started the line with my childhood friend Sita Talwalkar. Our USP is hand-embroidered work, white zardozi particularly. The label is unique in its design aesthetics, colour play and has designs and cuts to suit the sophisticated taste of the elite. We are trying to make it affordable because we want to help and promote these karigars.
“To be very honest it’s my partner Sita and her input, I would say is 200 per cent. We both put our minds together. We have designers with us but main is the embroidery that we (Padmini and Sita) work on. All the bright colours that you see here are my choice and all the pastels are Sita’s,” she laughed.
About the label Padmasitaa, she said, “We needed a name that would bring both our names together and when we researched this name Padmasitaa, we realised it had such a powerful connotation. It means lakshmi with a lotus.”
The collection is on display till April 3 at The Ashok hotel. The exhibition, Celebrating Vivaha is a one-stop-shop for all bridal needs and besides clothing and jewellery, also focusses on important pre-wedding categories like wedding gifts, decor and photography.
