The Key Theatre has come to India with their allegorical show. Dikla Katz and Avi Zlicha spoke to GANITA about their performance in Bangalore and Delhi

This is a story of a boy and a tree. When the boy becomes a man, things change and he looks at the same tree differently. It is a story about the innocence of childhood and the confusion of adolescence that results in the complications of adulthood. It is about the fields which are lost between grey concrete and about one green bud of hope. It is about the choices that we make and the price that we pay for the choices,” said the co-directors of the puppet show, When all was green. The play is co-directed by Dikla Katz and Avi Zlich, both committed stage artists.

The Key Theatre was established in 1998, a collaboration between both the writers. Their performances When all Was Green and Baron Munchausen won international awards. Throughout the years, the Israeli theatre group has collaborated on projects with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the Renaissance Festival, Haifa Festival, the National Maritime Museum, the Tel-Aviv Museum of Art and many more. They have also performed in Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Hungary, Senegal, Korea, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Italy, Taiwan, Slovenia, Japan, Kosovo, Norway and Poland.

“As a theatre company that travels in Israel and abroad, we seek to reach the young audience from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs, and strive to create memorable performances which will be artistic as well as thought-provoking. We seek to encourage the curiosity and imagination of the children and believe that by creating fantastic, non-realistic children’s theatre we can make a basis for acquaintance and a wide understating of the place we are living in,” they said.

Talking about puppetry, Dikla Katz said, “Puppetry is an art which is for both children as well as adults. By not having text in our play, we will leave the interpretation of the show to the imagination of the audience.” The duo has come to India to present their show in Bangalore and Delhi. “People from AHA! Children’s Theatre Festival had seen our show. We were called by them to perform at the festival. The collaboration with Akshara Theatre was made by AHA! itself,” told Avi Zlich. The pair will be performing in Akshara Theatre tomorrow (July 26th, 2016) at 10:30a.m. and 7 p.m. “We really feel very good in India. It’s amazing how our show is being received here,” said the artists.
