Girlyapa’s Love is Love
TVF’s Girliyapa has released its brand new video Love Is Love, aiming to start a conversation around changing the way Indian families react to their loved ones coming out of the closet. Starring actors Nidhi Singh, Jitendra Kumar, Gajraj Rao and Vibha Chibber, the new video has been made with YouTube’s Creators For Change, taking on the conversations around homosexuality in an average Indian family.
Nidhi Bisht, creative head of Girliyapa said, “We made a short film about love. It’s the story of a girl coming out to her parents. This was conceptualised and written months before the verdict, since we hoped for a verdict in favour of the LGBTQ community. As content creators, we felt it was our responsibility and privilege to use this platform to raise awareness on this topic.”
Love is Love shows Nidhi Singh as Ananya, coming out of the cocoon, and mustering the courage to tell her family that she likes girls. How her parents subtly change their stance and her brother’s surprising indifference to her sexual orientation is surely priceless to watch. Indian society has come a long way and this video shows a family at the cusp of change, moving towards acceptance with open arms.
ZEE5’s Khaar
After the success of recent originals like Karenjit Kaur — The Untold Story of Sunny Leone, Lockdown, Akoori, Lal Bahadur Shastri's Death — An Unfinished Story, among others, ZEE5 is set to stream Khaar. The docudrama will showcase Mahatma Gandhi’s significant Dandi March.
While a lot has been said about Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution to India’s independence, not too many people know that he often had to face oppositions even from his close aides from the Indian National Congress (INC). The idea for the salt satyagraha had been his brainchild and one that changed the course of our independence struggle; yet it didn’t have the popular support within the Congress. But, Gandhi pressed on with the belief that he was on the right path. The show unfolds the many challenges that he faced before initiating the march.
The docudrama features Surendra Rajan as Mahatma Gandhi, Sanjay Gurbaxani as Nehru, Amit Singh Thakur as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Tarakesh Chauhan as Maulana Azad. To give the audience an immersive experience, the show has Annu Kapoor lending his voice as a narrator.
Khaar will premiere on October 2.
