'Wanted people to forget Ranveer'

Ranveer Singh shares with Arjita Mishra that he locked himself in a room for 21 days and did not talk to anyone from his family and  friends to prepare for the role of Bajirao

For a person to change himself completely for a project is quite difficult.  You are expected to forget your identity, your temperament and in short,  everything. But, it is no new thing for our actors. It has become their way of getting into the skin of their character. Whether it was  Aamir Khan for Ghajini or Hrithik Roshan for Guzarish, in the past, we have seen all  of them trying endlessly  to bring out the character right. The latest entry into the list is the macho man, Ranveer Singh, for his forthcoming movie, Bajirao Mastani.

The time, when filmmaker Sanjay leela Bhansali gave the script of the film to Singh, he asked him to create the character of Bajirao on his own. “He gave me my research topic, script and said that now you have everything so go and create Bajirao and show it to me,” said Singh. He also shared with us that Bhansali has always been very liberal whenever he had approached him, whether it was for Ram-leela or Bajirao Mastani. The actor thinks that there should be mutual understanding and trust between the actor and the director so that the actor may get the freedom to bring out the character well. He said, “I think Mr. Bhansali and I have that kind of tuning and a great partnership as an actor and director.”

The actor thinks that getting back to back films as the leading man for Bhansali’s movies is a matter of being proud and honoured. “I hope that I continue to be the lead actor in his forthcoming movies as well. I am very possessive about him,” he said.

In his research, the actor told us that he studied almost all the great performances of the actors that he found out or he could relate his role to. Singh didn’t talk to his family for more than half of the month, just to fit in for the role. “In theatre, we are taught that in order to become somebody else, you have to leave your familiar surroundings. I wanted to create a character that was very distinctive and that is the reason why I chose to spend some time alone,” he shared.

While recalling his past memories at the time of his first film, he said, “At the time of Band Baaja Baraat, I came to Delhi to do the research on my  language. I made a few friends here and caught on to their way of speaking. For the longest time, people did not believe that I am a Bombay boy and they used to think of me as a Delhi boy.” He further added, “I went to Gujarat to do the research for Ram- leela for my character and learnt the language and accent as well. I remember, after watching the film, Vidya (Balan) ma’am called me and said that while watching the movie, she was waiting for my mistakes but she found none and this made me really happy,” said Singh with a proud smile on his face.

“For this character, I had to create Bajirao so that when people see me in the film they must forget that they are seeing Ranveer Singh on the screen,” he said.

Song launch of Bajirao Mastani

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh along with his co-actress Deepika Padukone launched another song from the film, Aayat, at Ambience mall. The song has been sung by Arijit Singh and is penned by filmmaker Sanjay leela Bhansali. At the event, singer Shreya Ghosal, presented two of the most famous songs of the film, Pinga and Diwani Mastani before the audience. Ghoshal said, “It has been a great honour for me that I have made my Bollywood debut with Bhansaliji   and from that time, I have always been given a chance to sing in his all films.” Singh also performed on his most popularMalhari song. He did not stop there as he made Padukone shake a leg along with him.

At the end of the event, Singh distributed the DVD of the songs of the movie to the audience.
