A recent dance drama by Sonal Mansingh focussed on oppression of the girl child and honour killing
In her dance dramas, she has touched upon many social subjects and this time she chose oppression of the girl child as the subject of the dance drama that was staged at Indian Habitat Centre.
The show presented by danseuse Sonal Mansingh and Centre for Indian Classical Dances through Sahakaar-Ideal of Co-operation highlighted issues like honour killing, child marriage and other abuses that a gild faces in her life through dance and music. The programme presented the girl’s view point in a poignant poem by the eminent poet Prasoon Joshi.
Differently abled kinds from two NGOs — little Star Children Home from Katni, Madhya Pradesh and Divyajypti, New Delhi, performed this dance drama on the tune of Mansingh. The show started with Om Shanti-Invocation to the Divine. Kids from both the foundation performed Gati, a special performance conceptualised by Mansingh. It illustrated freedom from all miseries.
Rimjhim Sa Sapna was the dance ballet based on the journey of these children from street to theatre. It reflected their inner voice. It depicted how the street children are bound by social obligations, due to which many can’t accomplish their dreams.
Mansingh performed along with the kids on Babul Jiya Mora Ghabraye. It was based on the poem by Prasoon Joshi.
Natya-katha, the ancient form of storytelling embellished with interpretative narratives, is the genre that the danseuse has introduced recently.
