You can enjoy private dining in a vault or have drinks on an open terrace at this new joint in CP. By Karan Bhardwaj

Sometimes, you just walk into a restaurant and look for space where you are uninterrupted by the sight of fellow food lovers. All you want is your private space where your best pals can have fun, whichever way they want, and still enjoy the best of music, food and dance. But considering it is Delhi, where space is the only constraint you face, such a desire remain mostly accomplished unless you walk into a plush property. But the concept of private dining has been redefined by The Vault Café, which has just thrown open its doors in the heart of the city, Connaught Place. The place has some six theme-based vaults to allow you some personal space. Of course, besides the vaults, there is an indoor and outdoor seating option, too, our favourite being the open terrace with that majestic national flag fluttering behind you! Quite a place for selfies!

The place opened last month and is an instant sensation among night crawlers. When we reached Vault late evening on a weekday, there was hardly any seat vacant. All six vaults were cheerfully in sync with loud music — similar pop tracks are played at the entire place — and the terrace seating emerged as a hot spot. Reason, there’s a huge hand-made oven managed by a chef, who offer you delicious pizzas. We learnt that the oven, customised by Marco Cappiotti, is a mobile oven built on a steel trolley and has a mosaic finish. The mosaic is done with red coloured Spanish tiles. Guests were busy chatting, drinking and soaking in the warmth that challenged the winter breeze.

We settled indoors where interiors donned the neo-classical, colonial age look.

The menu offers regular highlights from Oriental, Indian, Italian and Continental cuisine. Appetisers were bit spicy but that’s how we loved them. We gorged on their most popular thin crust pizza. The paneer tikka, chicken tikka and cheese balls were amazing. In drinks, we loved the raspberry sizzle. It’s a vodka-based cocktail with a mixture of raspberry and ginger squash, followed by dash of sweet and sour.

It’s frozen and comes along with ginger foam on top of the drink. Bartender Jatin Bisht suggested us signature vault fruit bull. It’s a watermelon and peach syrup with a dash of sweet and sour, toppled with red bull.

The street food has become a prominent feature in city restaurants.Kathi roll, bedmi puri, chhole bhature, samosa chhole, vada pao or keema pao — you name it and you have it. Their serving style was equally impressive. like, a platter of fish fingers has sieves at both ends. Did we tell you the signature vault chestIJ The wooden chest, suffice for five to six people, serves approx 500 ml of alcohol. Sip your cocktails through straws as smoke emanates mystery out of the chest.

“We are planning to host live music and concerts which will set the right vibe,” says owner Umang Tewari. Another reason to check-in!
