‘Priyanka is very particular as a producer, she knows what she wants,’ Madhu Chopra tells Unnati Joshi

Priyanka Chopra is very occupied these days with her international projects but it’s not the only thing that’s keeping her busy. Priyanka’s production house, Purple Pebble Production is all set to rock the Punjabi film industry with their film titled Sarvann. The film is produced by the actress and her mother, Madhu Chopra.

“It is a beautiful story, very content driven.  The film is about a young NRI who wants to get rich and in that process he commits a crime which is unintentional. The movie is a fun family drama.  It has some fabulous songs but is not the typical Punjabi movie with bhangra and big fat wedding. Priyanka’s father was a Punjabi and was very fond of singing the religious songs, the gurubanis. We have two-three gurubanis in the film one of which is sung by her dad too,” said Madhu Chopra.

Earlier in a statement she said her actress-producer daughter, Priyanka believed that Indian regional cinema should get an international platform which is why the trailer was recently launched in Toronto. “Canada is a good market and we wanted to do something different. Priyanka had this personal opinion that we should get an international platform for our regional cinema. So that was the idea behind the launch of the trailer on international platform with a bang.”

It is the first time the mother-daughter duo has produced a film together.

“We were going through a number of scripts and approved this because it is a value-ridden story. It was a pleasure working with the team. This was Priyanka’s wish to tell stories from different regions. She is very particular as a producer. She is so sure of what she wants, there is so much clarity in her instructions that it becomes easy to follow. She is in the country till January 28. But she is busy shooting her pending commitments. So we meet on sets,” she added.

Talking about daughter Priyanka, Madhu Chopra said  that she is a true-blue Punjabi at heart.

“Punjab is so flavourful. We want people to appreciate the richness of the culture of Punjab. If you see Punjabis world-over, they are hanging out to their culture. And are not allowing it to get diluted and spoilt. Priyanka takes a great pride in being a Punjabi. She calls herself hard-core Punjabi,” she told us.

Priyanka Chopra’s maiden Punjabi film as a producer will hit the screens on January 13.
