‘Glad to do some memorable comedies’

Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is loved for his versatility on screen, says he is glad that he got a chance to essay several interesting comic roles in Bollywood.

Tripathi's comic streak as an actor has been particularly popular in films such as Stree, the Fukrey franchise, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi and Angrezi Medium.

“Every piece of work has to make a point. That's the whole point of art. Although the nineties had a certain brand of comedy, new-age films demand that we poke fun more responsibly and use comedy to say something effective. In such a scenario, comedy films have to offer more than just about laughs and fun,” Tripathi said.

‘I think it's unfair. Right now, they are talking about the consumption of drugs. It is the choice of an individual, not of an industry. So do not blame the industry. Whether it is in politics, fashion or in the corporate world, there are people who are doing drugs. We should not generalise the situation.’

Actor Shweta Tripathi Sharma believes it is essential to discuss mental health as the unlock process continues all over India.

“A detailed conversation around mental health must ensue during the unlock phase. Considering people are stepping out to work amid the fear of COVID-19, it's important to conduct systematic counselling sessions,” she said.

“Lockdown experiences are different from case to case but the phase has been riddled with existential questions,” she added.

Mariah felt not worthy of existing

Singer Mariah Carey has recalled the time when she did not feel worthy of existing.

The pop star was a guest on Oprah Winfrey's show The Oprah Conversation. In a short video of the episode, Carey and Winfrey can be seen discussing topics ranging from the time the singer was held in the backseat of a police car to a moment in her life when she didn't feel “worthy of existing.”

“I wouldn't have gone here if I hadn't been treated as an ATM machine with a wig on,” Carey says in the clip.

It's unclear what or who Carey was specifically referring to but Winfrey responds, “The loneliness and sadness behind the facade, I now understand it.”
