Apart from brushing up his acting skills, Ayushmann Khurrana is evolving as a singer too. His new single O Heeriye brings out the happy side of love. He shares details with I Kaur

His first two songs were about pain and separation in love and were hugely liked. In his next, Ayushmann Khurrana has chosen to talk about the happy side of love. The actor-singer is all set to release his new single, O Heeriye, in collaboration with Yash Raj Studios. The trailer of the song was recently released on YouTube and will be out on September 14.

The idea of the song was conceived during a drive from  Mumbai to Pune. In fact, says Khurrana, he finds most of his ideas while driving.

“Some people might look forward to solitude for ideas and a few are able to think better in the company of someone special. But driving gives me time to unwind and that is when my thoughts flow freely,” said the actor, who last appeared in Nautanki Saala.

Talking about how his forthcoming single will be different from his previous compositions, Khurrana said, “I have used the lyrics smartly this time. Saadi Gali, being a purely Punjabi song, had lyrics which were hard for a few people to understand. O Heeriye has commonly spoken and easily understandable lyrics. Also Paani Da and Saadi Gali were about heartbreak, but this is a happy song.” The lyrics have been written by him and his friend Rochak Kohli. His wife inspired him to write that. “I get inspired by my own love story. Rochak and I both got married to our first girlfriends. The message of the song is to be in love, but it is not an emotional number,” he shared.

Ayushmann always wanted to be an actor, but music has been a passion to him. “I used to sing in school and college and had also taken classical training as a child. I also used to sing for theatre productions. I always believed that if an actor can be a singer too, it adds to his credibility,” he said. Reaching this platform was not an easy task for the actor. He continued, “I took part in Indian Idol and got rejected half way through and similar happened with Popstars. I never aspired to become a musician thereafter. I can’t experiment. But today people are looking for unconventional voices and that helped me.”

His forthcoming untitled YRF film will also feature his song. “I don’t plan a film based on what song I will be singing in it. I go with the flow. I think my work has been appreciated, that is why directors are asking me to sing for their films.”

Apart from a YRF project and Hamara Bajaj, Khurrana is also doing a biopic, details of which he did not divulge.

He added that he has managed to set his boy-next-door image and is now looking at doing dark characters. “I have just set my base in the industry and I think even directors are coming to know of my potential. I would love to play darker characters. In college I played the role of Shylock in the Merchant of Venice,” he signed off.
