Indigo Deli moves to Cyber Hub and matches ambience with its old favourites and new sizzles. Kanika Sachdeva drops by
Indigo Deli has a Bombay (the concept) halo around it. So it is but natural that its northern frontier had to be at the heart of Gurgaon’s international business district, DlF Cyber Hub. Rather than sniffing around, this is the go-to place anytime.
It has a friendly layout with a patio, the retail section coming first in order, followed by the lounge and the dining section. And then you can dig into comfort food of all kinds. You can perk yourself up by relishing rich, chunky, loaded and absolutely indulgent cookies or the simple vanilla ice-cream with Oreo. You can also sip into favourites like Deli Martini (have it classic or the Deli style) or the Deli Sangria infused with fresh fruits. They say their juices are a steal, simply because they are extracted with a gentler whirr of the rotor than the standard industry ones so that you can feel the fruit granules and get an at-home, refreshed feel. Then you can proceed to citrussy salads which do not get much of the vinaigrette dressing.
It’s an exhaustive menu but you could do a tic-tac-toe on easy foods and you would never go wrong. Don’t forget to bite into the wafer-crust pizzas, a deli speciality with the crispiest base and the hotchpotch of the yummiest toppings. Half and half wafer crust pizza, having three smoked peppers laced with three kinds of cheese on one half and chicken streaked with BBQ sauce on the second half, is where the strength lies. Slide your tongue into the highest selling dish, BBQ pork ribs with buttered cornbread, with the right hints of smokiness, spices and sweetness.
The pork is simply tender and juicy, not an achievable standard by most players in this segment. The menu includes other all-time favourites like the Deli Roast Chicken with a dollop of mashed potato and gravy, done in classic style, oozy tender with herbed marinade and crackling skin. Clearly slow-cooked, you can catch the accent of each ingredient, yet all blending with each other. And if you, like Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride, cannot make out which egg you like best, just go for the Eggs Benedict. The chicken wings are charred to perfection.
By the end of it, you should find yourself in a very cheesy way, be it the crème brulee or cheesecake or cheese soufflé with paprika (Rs 385). Definitely European, it’s so silky and luscious. Each dish here seems to have a heart even in the healthy options. And that’s what matters. Portion sizes are value for money.
