The second day of India Couture Week had Anita Dongre weaving a love story. Unnati Joshi brings you the highlights of Epic love
Exhibiting her collection at the FDCI India Couture Week on the second day of the five-day extravaganza at Taj Palace on Thursday, Anita Dongre captivated the audience with her signature gota patti-infused creations. With fusion folk music creating an earthy background, the collection was an intriguing take on how a bohemian Indian bride would be. It was meant for the new-age feisty bride.
The bridal couture collection marks Dongre’s debut at ICW. Epic love was inspired by Rajasthan’s architecture. We asked the designer about her fascination with Rajasthan to which she said, “Rajasthan remains the core of all my inspiration. It is amazing how it never ceases to inspire me. With each trip that I take to the state, I return abuzz with new ideas. A considerable amount of my childhood was spent in Jaipur. The architecture, crafts, colours and festivities, all come through in my designs and are a part of my DNA.”
Talking about the difference between Indian and Western couture, the designer said, “In India, couture is all about bridal wear. Weddings are when people buy beautiful couture. It is a great time for designers to put the most lavish collection together. We presented beautiful chintz-inspired prints on lehengas teamed with bohemian blouses”, Dongre told us. We also asked the designer the dos and don’ts for brides this season. “Pick styles that allow your persona to shine through and wear them with panache. Don’t overdo the heavily embroidered look as it weighs you down. It is important for brides to enjoy their most important day”, she said. Celebrities like Shabana Azmi, Bhumi Pednekar, Pernia Qureshi and designer Manish Malhotra graced the event.
