There is a new circus in the town that you must visit. Unnati Joshi checks in

Situated in the crowded lane of South extension, a captivating lounge Circus is sure to leave you astonished. As the name suggests, the place incorporates all the elements that define a circus. Right from the entrance, you know you will experience something exciting. There is a rooftop table with the view of part of the place, an open terrace, a large seating space with striking lights overhead. We joined the food carnival with Masala Gang’s special cocktail, Ram laddu and kala khatta which quenched our shrivelled throat. Both the drinks were equally adroit.

Next we ordered some palak patta chaat and classic vada pav. We totally lost our heart to the chaat. The gentle crisp of spinach coupled with sweet and sour imli has us asking for more. The vada pav didn’t appeal much to us. It was basic and plodding to eat. There was nothing new or different about it, a regular thing with mustard like tang. You know the drill. We were then served Chicken 65 and Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza. Chicken 65 was done well. We could very well discern the lime and ginger coming through. Garnished with kadi patta it had a twist of taste. One impeccable dish, this one is worth a munch. Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza was like any other chicken pizza, simple but pleasurable. Not much to write about it. We next found ourselves mired in Dal Makhni and lachcha paratha. Circus undoubtedly serves the best makhni. It glides down the gullet tailing behind the creamy flavours. Also the presentation was very uniquely done in a three- tier steel tiffin box with salad in one box, lachcha paratha in other and dal in the last box.

Any meal is half-finished without a dessert. We finally tried the dessert, ‘The Ultimate Circus Sunday’. The dessert had a beautiful tone, and was properly presented. It looked so skilful that it broke our heart to put a spoon through it. It had three differently flavoured ice-creams, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla with some cherries and sliced bananas. Cherries, we felt were not required but bananas were giving it a good flavour. It felt like an average dessert until the ice-creams melted. The defrost structure was delicious and the lavish cinnamon was making it even better. There are plenty of other dishes you can try out here, including a variety of burgers, pizzas, chicken et al. All in all, Circus deserves a visit for the décor, the food and the deconstructed ‘Masala Gang’s cocktails’. There are no questions about it; this new quirky place is here to stay.
