The ongoing Dragon Boat festival at the wondrous dimsum tea house, Yauatcha has some of the scrumptious delicacies on offer

The name resonating with sundry dimsums, Chinese flavours, and an ambience transporting you to the streets of China, Yauatcha, over the years has garnered a niche for itself. Housing several types of dimsums, the place is now almost synonymous with the dumplings. And the recent Dragon Boat festival introduces yet another special menu which boasts of, zongzi with fillings like edamame and vegetarian duck, pork belly and shiitake mushroom, to name a few. We hopped on the festive boat with asparagus and mushroom sticky rice which was sweet, mild and not too overwhelming but not bland as well.

Although the menu has been kept concise but it delivers what it intends to. Next up, was edamame and chestnut dimsum - a blast of lightly flavoured goodies filling the mouth served with chilli relish. After this, we went for turnip cake, crisp, crusty and delish. It was topped nicely, with burnt garlic crusts, adding to its character. For the mains we went for Chinese greens with spicy rice, piquant as usual. A very well balanced act. The exclusive cocktail, on-board, for the limited menu — Citrus Spritz, acted as the perfect accompaniment for the sweet and sour fare.

After indulging in savouries, it was time for some bonne bouche for which we were served wine soaked water chestnut and mango cake with sauvignon blanc sorbet. We have to say we were waiting for this one with bated breath and it indeed turned out to be as delectable as it looked. We also tried Raspberry delice which hands down scored high on the visual appeal. But all the glamour couldn’t really hide the prosaic undertones hitting our palate. Nonetheless you are sure to have a ball at the soon to be ending Dragon Boat festival at Yauatcha. Better grab a table till June 30.
