If you are one of the unlucky types who are working on a festival like Christmas then we understand your pain. We bring to you some of the unique ideas to make your day merry and cheerful while you are in office. By Riya Sharma
While the world is immersed and going gaga over their Christmas parties, extravagant meals, there would be some ‘brave’ souls who would be sitting in front of their computers and doing the same usual work. Though it is difficult for those to understand who are not working on this day to even get this feeling— how does it feel to wake up and dress up to go at work on days like Christmas and New Years’s, many of us are now just used to it. The good part is, gone are the days when it did not matter whether the world is celebrating Christmas or New Year as offices in town have found their own unique way to celebrate the birth of the Christ.
If you are one of those who are working today in your office despite the festivities around, we bring to you the list of things that you can today to at least get the vibe of the festival.
Played the Secret SantaIJ
While scrolling down our Facebook page, we all have noticed our friends playing Secret Santa in their offices throughout the week. “The idea behind playing secret santa for us is to break the monotony in our daily office routine and make the environment bit more fun and different altogether. Also, you get to know your colleagues more through playing such games,” shared Grace Sabbathi, PR Consultant.
Swati Srivastava, senior visual merchandiser shared, “ The whole idea behind Secret Santa is to send love to your near ones through gifts and surprise them.”
But, those who haven’t played it yet are plannning to go ahead with it. “We haven’t thought about it but I am sure it will be a big fun. let’s see, I think we will have secret wish box in which we will collect wishes and would try to fulfill them,” said Shweta Singh, director at Perfect Impressions. If you have not played it till now then what are you waiting forIJ Become someone’s Santa for a day and make them happy, we suggest.
Office Potluck
When was the last time that all of you sat down together and had lunch with your team matesIJ This is the time to break the monotony of lunchtime routines and gorge on. Each one of you can bring something from your homes and enjoy ghar ka khana with your collegues. If you think the idea of homemade food is a passe, then order food from outside and sit down together and have a perfect meal.
Sabbathi told us, “As we were not sure about today, we celebrated the festival yesterday as we had a Christmas eve party last night.” While Singh shared, “ It’s time to spread happiness and be merrier. We at our office are planning to go out for office lunch together. The idea is to relish Christmas together.” We completely agree with her as it is the festive season then instead of eating your meal on your own, get to know all those who have just joined or are feeling homesick by sharing your meal.
Help those in need
There are numerous times when we think of helping those in need. We are lucky that we get to celebrate the festival with our loved ones but have you ever thought about those living on the street who do not even get to do anything on the festival. With office parties and potluck, people this time are also coming together to help those in need. During our interaction with many of them, we got to know that the special way to celbarte the Christmas this year means helping the needy. Srivastava told us, “Days before the festival, we all had planned that we will donate winter clothes in an NGO. So, today, we all will gather the things that we can distribute and make our contribution.”
“We would be distributing some gifts and refreshments like chocolates and cookies to those in need. This is how we wish to make their Christmas,” said Sabbathi.
Dress to kill
We understand that you would be working on a day like this, but what is the harm in looking your best. Not only you should dress to kill but also plan a dress code to at least get the vibe of the festival. Many offices in town have set a colour code for the day and we recommend it is better to follow the code. “We are celebrating Christmas in a colourful way. Every employee needs to come in red and white coloured theme,” shared Srivastava. Singh, on the other hand told us that they are wearing red colour on the day. “Though we have asked all of our employees to wear red, but there is a possiblity that one might not have anything in red. I know the chances are rare, but we expect all of them to spot a Santa cap at least.”
Now, we have given you enough reasons to go to office with a happy smile. Wear red, at least buy a Santa cap, look you best and try to make your Christmas a lovely one with your team mates. Become someone’s Secret Santa because bringing a smile to a face is the best thing that you can do. At least, today!
My Christmas Story
Monica Dogra
Some like to hum carols while some bake plum cakes and there are others who celebrate their own way. This week we bring you cherished memories of noted people from every walk of life...because it’s Christmas
Childhood memories..
Christmas was a time when the whole family would get together and eat a huge feast. We would have tons of presents, and hopefully if it was a white Christmas, we would play outside in the snow and then come inside and snuggle by the fire. Movies like Home Alone were part of the ritual and of course lots of chocolate and sweets.
This year's celebration…
This Christmas, I'll be celebrating in Goa. I'll be with my friends as well as preparing for the Magnetic Fields Boat Party. So will be a little busy but won't forget to make this most if the lovely festival!
love for Christmas…
What I loved most was the togetherness of the family and the copious amount of food.
