Playboy Café lures the playmates of the town with its drinks. By Jigyasu Joshi
After launching Playboy Club in Hyderabad and PB Beer Garden in Pune, Playboy finally comes to North India with Playboy Café in Gurgaon. Plush interiors and much spacious, it sure makes a cut for one of the premium eat-out places. The place is divided into three levels with posters of Playboy models on the walls, a huge centre bar and other crowd-pleasers.
We hit the bar and the first thing we grab is Playboy’s take on lIIT, served in a big london telephone booth cage. Unlike other lIITs, this one wasn’t dominated by ice tea but had more of an orange tang to it. The mix was lethal and the amount was enough for two people to share. We also tried PB vodka chai, another thumps up drink. For the starters came blue cheese yogurt kebab, nachos topped with some garbanzo, Thai rice dumpling and cajun fish tikka. The kebabs were gooey with sweet and sour blue cheese melting in the mouth. The nachos acted as the perfect munchies for the drinks while the rice dumplings were stuffed well with spiced minced chicken served with red chilli sauce. Grabbed some water already. The fish tikka was nicely enveloped with cajun and wasn’t too spicy on the palate.
For the mains, we ordered chicken breast, grilled fish and Massaman chicken curry served with rice. To begin with chicken breast was bit of a disappointment. The chicken not being tender, lacking spices and getting dry too soon. However, somewhat like the classic Thai red, the Massaman curry served with jasmine rice was high on flavours. For the grilled fish, the spices coated it generously without leaving a sticky aftertaste which basically means it was cooked well. Also, the rice was stirred up fresh and not reheated. The dessert comprised red velvet jar cake, its fluffiness taking us by surprise. In all, with lavish décor and good grab on drinks and food, we think it is fine to say that the Rabbit is finally in town.
