Tennis ace Roger Federer feasted on delicaces like tandoori gobhi, tandoori aloo, dal bukhara, naan bukhara and gulab jamun
Remember the quirky images that got viral on Internet when tennis ace Roger Federer asked his fans to help him make a wish list of must-do in India through imagesIJ His Indian fans made him a snake charmer, an auto-rickshaw driver, posed him in front of Taj Mahal and what not! But Federer is a step ahead!
Now in India, he got the real taste of the country when he feasted himself with traditional cuisines unapologetically! The seven-time Wimbledon champion and 17-time Grand Slam winner feasted on a giant-sized naan, served with the usual non-vegetarian and vegetarian accompaniments, and then traditional desserts at a signature restaurant during his maiden trip here.
“Got naan,” Federer tweeted along with a photograph in which he’s all smiles holding a crisp naan, a flat bread made of white flour and baked in a tandoor. He was having his gala time at ITC Maurya’s Bukhara. According to a hotel source present, Federer relished the Sikandri raan, murgh malai kabab, seekh kabab, tandoori gobhi, tandoori aloo, dal bukhara and naan bukhara at the Bukhara. The hotel has has hosted any number of world leaders and had even a dish named after former president Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton.
For desserts, he ordered kulfi, phirni, gulab jamun at the restaurant which specialises in recreating the charm of the traditional clay oven cooking. Federer, who had earlier mentioned his desire to have a good Indian meal, dined at the popular restaurant with his father and associates, the source told IANS. The Swiss star, a 17-time Grand Slam champion, is here for the inaugural International Premier Tennis league (IPTl).
He was upbeat about playing here. “New Delhi you have no idea how excited I am to come play in #India (sic),” he had shared in an earlier tweet.
He was also accorded a warm welcome earlier on his arrival at the hotel, where World No1 Novak Djokovic is also staying.
