While Siddharth Malhotra wants to prove his versatility, Shraddha Kapoor looks forward to sing for herself on screen. The actors chatted with Trisha Mukherjee

It’s a love story with a twist. Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain, which stars Siddharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor, is a saga of a villain and his romance. However, the posters and trailers have led to speculations about the real villain in the film. “Both Riteish and I are playing negative characters but we are differently perceived. While I am more out there with all the aggression and action, Riteish is unassuming,” said Siddharth, who plays the character of Guru, a gangster.

“Aisha is a chirpy and bubbly girl, who is the rainbow between the two grey characters. She cracks jokes incessantly to make people happy,” Shraddha told us. love continues to be the central theme of the film. “It is not preachy but  it sends across a message through one of Aisha’s dialogues, which wraps up the story,” Siddharth said, as Shraddha took over and repeated her dialogue, “Nafrat ko nafrat nahi, sirf pyaar mita sakta hai (hatred cannot drive away hatred, love can do that).”

Trailers indicate that Riteish’s fall might be an outcome of his separation with his beloved played by Aamna Sharif, and Siddharth’s rise, a result of Shraddha’s love, Siddharth added, “Mohit Suri also tells you that love has the power to turn you into someone bad or good.”

Siddharth will be seen as a loud and aggressive guy in the film. The actor said, “The two actors that I drew inspiration from, for this role have been Shah Rukh Khan in Darr and Sanjay Dutt in Khalnayak.”

However, he asserted that he would not want to become like any of the actors in the industry. “I want to explore all genres and create a niche of my own in the industry, rather than treading someone else’s footsteps. I would want to play a different character in each of my movies.”

While Shraddha’s debut movie did not do very well at the box office, her first attempt at singing has received overwhelming responses. “I had been bugging Mohit to let me sing since Aashiqui 2, but considering the movie was extremely high on music, he kept ignoring me. But he fulfilled my wish in Ek Villain. I am glad that he did not computerise my voice. He has kept it raw, and the song as come out really well. It feels great to be appreciated,” she said. Refraining from comparing herself to Alia Bhatt who also sung for herself in Highway, the actress said, “I have been keeping really busy because of which I haven’t heard the song. But I know it has received a great response. And if we can sing for ourselves, then why notIJ”

While both the stars admitted to taking criticism in a healthy way, Shraddha said, “You can always choose to ignore criticism that is done just for the sake of it.”

Both the actors spoke about their forthcoming films. While Shraddha has already started shooting for Haider and ABCD 2, Siddharth has two action movies yet to be titled.
