Indulge in conveyor-style delicacies while sitting within a Singapore-inspired-environment, at a new restaurant chain. Prerna Sharma explored the place

While people experiment with Oriental cuisine, TCI Apex Pal Hospitality Pvt ltd recently entered  a joint venture with Sakae Sushi, a renowned Singapore-based restaurant chain serving Japanese cuisine. Their first joint recently opened at Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj.

Chandrima Agarwal, CEO, TCI Apex Pal Hospitality Pvt ltd, shared, “We did a survey before opening, and found many Japanese stay in Delhi. So do expats from Singapore and South Asian countries. We learnt that sale of Oriental pan-Asian restaurants were more than north or south Indian restaurants. Hence we opened Sakae Sushi.” It has trendy interiors and quick-service kaiten (conveyor belt sushi).

Ingredients are imported from Singapore. “We enrich our sushi rice with Vitamin E for health benefits. In addition, we make frequent farm visits to ensure safety of our food source. Food served at Sakae Sushi does not contain MSG and is sent for laboratory tests regularly.”

The architectural design of the restaurant is in Japanese style by international designers with a Japanese poem on the ceiling of the private dining room and a Japanese Tattooed Bar customised for Sakae Sushi India. The restaurant is on two floors, with a fine-dining restaurant and open terrace dining. Two bars offer everything from beer to sake.

They revamped the menu for Indians. It has signature dishes like spicy Kimchee Seafood Kaminabe, Salmon Yuzu Shirataki, spicy Sumiyaki Udon, Sakae Blossom, Sakana Isshi and Hotate Mentaiyaki to name a few.

“There are a wide variety of veg sushi available in Singapore. So vegans have choice too. All our staff have been trained from Singapore.”

The restaurant pioneered the concept of tiered-plate sushi with veg and non-veg sushi. They also incorporated built-in hot water taps for fuss-free green tea.

“Generally people order two types of green tea — Genmaicha tea and Sencha tea — both are from Singapore.

Their tea bags can be used twice, hence the water taps, so they can drink without paying twice,” elaborated Agarwal.

She added, “Sushi is popular with most people, and is usually available in five star hotels and high-end restaurants. We offer food at pocket-friendly price. It will range from Rs195-450,” said Agarwal.

There is a seasonal menu and kids’ menu, for tasty and healthy-cooked Japanese bites.
