Sunil Soni, has assumed charge of the post of Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) from July 2. He is a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Maharashtra Cadre, 1981 Batch. He is from the Engineering discipline having done BE (Mech) from Nagpur University and Masters in Business Administration, International Business from University of Western Sydney.
He is on deputation to Government of India and joined as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services, on April 16, 2012. Prior to this he has held various important positions in government of Maharashtra in District Administration, Industries, Communications & Information Technology, Urban Development, Planning & Programme Implementation and Finance as well as in the Ministry of Coal.
