Sanjeeda Sheikh tells Prerna Sharma about her new show, Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan, in which she plays a strong-willed, independent woman

A  well-known name on television, Sanjeeda Sheikh, is back again on prime time. She will soon be seen as one of the female protagonists in Zee TV’s family drama, Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan. It is the remake of popular Bengali show, Khela, which was aired about a decade ago. The promos of the show have already generated quite a stir.

She is elated over the show and speaking of it, she said, “Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan has a compelling storyline and a gripping narrative. The story traces the journey of two women — Meera and Nandini — facing a common adversary, their father-in-law. While in other serials, we see girls fighting over a suitable man, in this show, the young women are fighting for independence. The story also has enough masala to keep the audiences hooked from day one.”

The vivacious and beautiful Sheikh will be seen in a very bohemian avatar as Meera who is a free-spirited independent girl living an idyllic life in Shimla. She said, “She is an impulsive woman of today who stands strong in the wake of adversity. She lives life on her own terms, though Meera appears to be tough and strong, she is actually vulnerable, insecure and emotional. She is outspoken and does not believe in mincing words even if the truth will hurt others. Playing such a character was very difficult as you have to show emotions of happiness on your face despite a drenched heart,” she added.

Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan has been shot across beautiful locations in Delhi, Rishikesh and Dhanaulti.

Sheikh recalled, “The best part of shooting remains an extensive outdoor shoot. Whenever we shoot, most of the locations are in and around Mumbai or some studio but here I got to visit a lot of amazing places.”

A year into her marriage to Aamir Ali, which followed a six year courtship, Sheikh says she is very happy. “Aamir is an expert when it comes to surprises,” she gushed. “In fact when he proposed, I didn’t have any clue. I was in my track pants after a lengthy session at the dance class when he invited me for dinner. He doesn’t generally care about my appearance but that day he asked to wear something nice. After we reached the Holiday restaurant in Mumbai, I realised that he had booked the whole restaurant. It was then that he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was shocked and surprised at the same time.”

She loves dancing and has won two reality dance shows — Nach Baliye season three and Zara Nachke Dikha.

“I love dancing, and my favourite is Madhuri Dixit. I didn’t like the rehashed version of Dhak Dhak. I think nobody can ever replace her in that song. I also like Malaika Arora Khan,” said Sheikh.

“I want to be an assistant director some day. Though I keep changing my mind about my profession, I want to do everything,” she concluded.
