Fawad Khan gets candid about fashion and his social statement and even shares his opinion about dressing up. By Sharang Bhaskaran
Even before he started ruling hearts in Bollywood Fawad Khan had girls swooning (read drooling) over him on the other side of the border. No matter what he wore, his smouldering good looks could not be very easily concealed. Every public appearance of his has been niche and classy — effortlessly. Be it a pair of shorts, a three piece suit or even just a plain t-shirt and jeans, the actor has carried them all off with panache.
But we give credit to his humble nature. He becomes even more desirable when he shyly confesses that he does not consider himself a very fashionable person. He, however, agrees that he carries himself pretty well. The actor was in town at an event for a top Italian fashion brand where he met fans and the media and talked about fashion and his personal style.
The actor, who became something of a style icon after the 2014 film Khoobsurat with his neat suits and bandhgalas, can certainly give a few tips to the Bollywood heroes on how to look stylish. Dressed in a pastel pink jacket with black pants and checked tie, he exemplified style and suaveness. When asked if he is particular about his clothes and his choice of outfits, he said, “I can wear anything from suits to shorts, and I feel comfortable in all kinds of clothes. My choice of outfit depends on the occasion I’m dressing for.” He added, “Kapde pehanne ki tameez hai (I have the sense of dressing). I am not the most fashionable but I carry myself pretty well.”
The clothing brand conducted a contest on Instagram wherein contestants were judged on their styling techniques using the brand’s new collection and Khan selected one he thought was the best. Speaking on all the pictures of the entries he saw, he said, “I wish I had as good an eye for fashion as some of these guys do. looking at all these amazing ensembles, I feel like I need to take a few tips from them.”
In an informal chat with Khan, his fans got some interesting style tips from the man himself who feels that style is a personal expression. “Style is personal expression and it is not confined to any trend. It’s not your clothes that make you look nice but it’s you who makes clothes look nice,” he said. When asked what according to him his best quality, the actor said, “I’m very modest and so I don’t really know how to praise myself.
But then, being humble is very important so you could say that humility is my best quality.” Being the extremely polite gentleman that he is, Khan was gracious in answering all his fans and giving them a photo opportunity. “I am so grateful for all the love and affection I get from my fans. It is even more humbling when elders give you blessings,” he said.
Taking an opportunity to speak about the brand’s spring summer collection, he said, “I am extremely elated to be a part of this event. It was a great pleasure to get an opportunity to interact with my fans. I am glad to see that the spring summer range looks classy and elegant as always. It complements the latest trend and my personal style.”
