As music producers and DJs, KYGO and DYRO, performed on the second day of Sunburn, Riya Sharma speaks to Dyro, the music producer from Netherlands. He tells her that the present music needs to evolve as he wishes to see more creativity in the field where people create their own ‘thing’ and not follow others

Amid the intensity of high drop beats and classic mashups when you are transported into another world of the EDM, how would you react if you get to hear a peppy number like Kundi mat khadkao raja, during the last set played by international artist, Dyro from Netherlands. On the second day at Sunburn, he started playing around nine and built up the high voltage drama of his drop beats, mixes and drumstep. Just when the crowd had least expected it, the Black smoke music producer played the Bollywood’s item number, Aao Raja from the movie, Gabbar is back. Needless to say, the crowd went berserk and did not mind showing off their Bollywood’s moves on the mix.

“I did my investigation of couple of Indian songs, It is not like I remember all those songs in my head. But I think those are favourites here and I mashed up them with my music,” he shared.

He went on to play DJ Snake’s lean on, mixed it with his electro house genre and surprised everyone when he dropped the beat, lowering down the volume and what came from ‘the other side’ was Adele’s heartbreak song, Hello. “I haven’t played any of my regular music. This one is more diverse and it is exciting to me as well because it is new and it has a different kind of energy,” he added.

The record music played who is going to release his next album in February shared, “Though I don’t know any of the Indian artistes but if I get a chance, then I definitely would love to collaborate. To be honest, Indian music has its own thing. We never hear it in Europe and America but to me, it is very cool and amazing to draw inspiration from so I would like to work with Indian artiste.”

Though a lot of the  artistes in the music industry feel that the present music scene is evolving, but the against all odds hitmaker told us that the music scene at present is quite boring. “The same thing is repeated over and over again. Though it got better this year, it was boring last year when everything seemed the same. For me, that was also a kind of turning point when I told myself that I don’t want to do this anymore. I want to be known for my thing and not known for something that is being followed by everybody,” he pointed out.

On the other hand, before Dyro sweeped off the floor with his beats of drumstep, Kygo, the headliner for the second day broke the monotony of loud beats with his tropical house and downtempo, the genre is known for. The producer and musician from Norway started with Ed Sheeran’s I see fire and went on to play his version of lean on and also played his forthcoming single, Stay. With lyrics on the screen behind and video of the song being played simultaneously, the DJ gave a preview of his song and asked the audience to sing along. Began with, ‘How are you doing Goa, to ‘I love you all’, Kygo played mainly all of his super hits except Nothing left and Coldplay’s Midnight. But, as he played Stole the show, the crowd started singing along themselves which actually went perfect with what he played at the moment.
