Dia Mirza chats with Divya Kaushik about producing India’s first female detective film, her intense relationship with cinema and business bonding with beau Sahil Sangha
Since last one year and a half we have mostly seen Dia Mirza gracing the award ceremonies and attending events. All those who wondered if the actress has decided to take a break from films and settle down with beau Sahil Sangha, were happily surprised when the actor-producer announced another project from her production house Born Free Entertainment.
Bobby Jasoos, which is being promoted as India’s first female detective film, features Vidya Balan and will be directed by Samar Shaikh. “We were testing waters with our first film and after it got a positive response from people we were confident of putting out something which is high on content and entertainment value. We wanted a script that will give us an opportunity to stand out. Bobby Jasoos is first of the three scripts we were working at,” said Dia and repeated that Vidya is an appropriate choice to play the lead of the film.
“We all know that she is a powerhouse performer and there could have been no one like her to live up to the character. I think audience relate well to her as a female detective and since we know Vidya for redefining herself with every role that she does, we are sure that she will be fantastic as a detective,” added Dia.
The cast of the film is already final and Dia and Sahil shared that as producers they will maintain that the film comes out as a complete package. “Cinema is evolving and there are new subjects being worked upon but the bottomline is that a film has to be entertain. Every film is a reflection of one’s personal sensibilities, so apart from being an entertainment package, this film will be about honest storytelling, which we as a brand believe in. I just hope that audience will appreciate our honest approach,” said Dia.
As an actress Dia has worked in number of films. But she says that her relation with films is much more intense than it appears.
“While acting I realised that I have so many ideas that I would love to watch on screen. Rather than waiting for others to take them up, I thought it will be a smart move to do something different and explore the world of filmmaking. Also, I feel with time a person has to open up to new challenges and graduate to doing different things. Thankfully, I have a partner like Sahil, we share the same vision and interest in cinema,” said Dia.
The actress shared that she feels Sahil’s biggest strength is his patience. “He can only focus on the goal and work. He doesn’t let the obstructions deter his spirits,” she commented.
Sahil on the other hand feels that Dia’s strength and weakness lies in one factor. “She is very emotional and thinks from her heart. This in many cases is her biggest strength as she perceives things differently, but at times it can be her weakness. But I think since we understand each other well we can play a good cop and a bad cop to one another. We are better able to analyse situations with each other,” said Sahil.
Shooting for Bobby Jasoos will begin mid-November and the film is set for summer release next year.
