Theatre experience is all set to be more adventurous as Delite Cinema becomes the first to introduce Dolby Atmos Screen

Here’s a good news for cinema aficionados. Upgrading its audio technology, Delhi’s one of the oldest theatre Delite has introduced  Dolby Atmos Screen. The single screen theater is also the first in northern India to have this technology. Unlike traditional audio systems, Atmos is a positional sound system, with many more channels of audio, helping create more life-like sound. Movies like Brave, The life of Pi, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Dhoom 3, Madras Cafe, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag featured Atmos technology.

It was first introduced and launched in mid 2012. In the last 20 months, it has been installed in 600 screens worldwide and in about 15 screens in India. The Atmos technology was first launched here at Chennai’s Satyam Cineplex.

Shashank Raizada, owner of Delite Cinemas said, “I believe Dolby Atmos will be a major differentiator for the movie watching audience,” adding that he sees it as “providing our audience with new and innovative concepts for an enhanced experience.” Delite has invested about Rs 70 lakh for the Atmos system.

The technology offers object-based listening. The system installation involved setting up of 64 speakers to enhance the realism and impact of every scene. The speakers on the ceiling also compliment the experience, the hypnotic experience of cinema. Each speaker is independent of each other. It gives real powerful sound in the theatre. Delite has confirmed there will be no change in the prices of tickets.

“There was a need to improve the cinema sound to the human-hearing level so that you may feel as if what you would have felt otherwise without the equipment. Dolby Atmos bought in what is called the object-based sound to make you feel the real thing,” said Raizada.
