To promote Delhi as a film-friendly shooting destination, Delhi Tourism participated at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Led by Delhi Tourism’s MD and CEO, Shurbir Singh, the tourism board showcased the capital’s numerous offerings as a creative canvas as well as a facilitator.

“These filmmakers are some of the best storytellers in the world, and Delhi has a multitude of stories worth-telling. We are committed to enabling creators craft their narratives staged on the ever-inspiring platform of Delhi,” said Sudhir Sobti, the chief manager, Public Relations at Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited (DTTDC) from Cannes.

Delhi Tourism was also a part of the Indian delegation for the India-Nordic Countries Partnership session at the Nordic Pavilion and bore witness to the agreement signing between the Producers Guild of India and the European Film Commissioners Network for enhancing relations between the two film production industries.

In the last five years alone, over 200 films have been filmed partially or completely in Delhi, out of which the year 2018 saw many films being shot in Connaught Place. On the international front, Chandni Chowk has been in extensive demand due to its cultural authenticity. Delhi witnesses an average of 30 films being shot every year.

The availability of new talent, lower production cost, international connectivity, and more than 200 locations to shoot at were the key offerings Delhi put forth to filmmakers and producers at the Cannes Film Festival. Delhi Tourism itself has few properties which can be used as ideal location for shootings.

In terms of logistics, Delhi proffers includes hotels, transport, communication, film shooting equipment, and film processing to ensure streamlined film shooting. Effectively binding the resources available and the procedures involved in acquiring them, the Delhi government facilitates all the permissions to aid production in Delhi. All applications may be sent directly to Delhi Tourism stating the desired locations to shoot at, and the Film Shooting Facilitation Cell.
