With the tunes of harmonium and dholak, the hall at Ambassador’s residence of Israel was filled with the rhythmic flow of music. The programme started with the folk dance of Odisha, Gotipua, performed by the students of Aarohan from the state. It was followed by the Bollywood style of dance, performed by the students of Aarohan, Delhi.
The occasion was to support Aarohan, an NGO which helps the street children to get educated and achieve their dreams. As we entered in the lawn, there were three stalls which were placed with the home accessories, clothes and diyas.
The founder of the NGO, Rani Patel said, “Today’s event is organised to thank the Israel Embassy for their love and support and we are thankful to them that they have opened their residence for us.” It was a proud moment for her as the Ambassador and his guests enjoyed the performance of the students and encouraged them, too.
Patel started the NGO in the year 2005 with only five street students and now there are 5,000 students who are getting education. “One of my student is a photographer and he is earning about `35,000 per month, one of my student was good in her academics and now she is pursuing her higher education and one girl is teaching in my school,” she said proudly.
“In many countries, we are diplomats and in many we are guests. The love and gratitude which we receive from countries, we feel that we want to give something to the society through our social work. We want to help the students, kids and empower women and this is one organisation which works towardssuch issues,” said Daniel Carmon, Ambassador of Israel.
He shared with us that he organises various cultural activities and supports organisations which helps unprivileged students. “It is a good time to celebrate the festive season with these cultural activities,” concluded Carmon.
