Imagine what it would be like to drive a car which can run a 100 kilometres on one litre of petrol. Renault’s Eolab, considered to be the world’s most fuel-efficient automobile was one of the many interesting cars that we came across at the ongoing Auto Expo. But the sad part of the deal is, the car is just a prototype and there is a possibility that it won’t be on the streets anytime soon. Another great feature of the car is that it is a hybrid one and is designed to run on both fuel and electric power.
What’s new
Apart from the Eolab concept, Renault unveiled two models at the fair — KWID 1.0 SCe, KWID EASY.
Ford’s Mustang looked sleek and quite chic in flaming red. We were also informed about the Figo Aspire which, a compact sedan launched last year and Ford Endeavour.
Mahindra, on the other hand, displayed the eco-friendly hybrid model Reva e20 Sports. We wee told that the model could be an all-new electric sports car based on the sharp looking Reva Halo electric sports car. The Mahindra Reva Halo two-seater electric claims to cover around 200km when charged fully.
Europe’s leading car manufacturer, Volkswagen made quite a start on the first day, unveiling quite a few products at the motor show. Not only did they make a world premier of the Ameo, but also introduced the eighth-generation Passat with an innovative of plug-in hybrid — Passat GTE. They also brought an enhanced product range for the Indian market with Tiguan, a premium SUV.
At the Chevrolet display area what caught out attention was the Chevrolet Corvet Stingray. It is the second fastest racing car in the world. The model is available in the US and Dubai but not in India.
On their way
Alongside the many cars that were on display, a few companies also chose to display prototypes of the cars that are being developed. There were two cars at the Hyundai display area — one orange car and one that looked like a formula one race car. A spokesperson from Hyundai told us that the cars are still being developed and that apart from the body of the car, nothing has been decided.
We saw a similar race car at the Mercedes area. It was more slender and detailed. It was a hybrid prototype — an AMG Hybrid (as described) petronas.
