NTPC, a maharatna company in the PSU segment, which had rolled out a plan for 24,000 toilets across the country, is all set to create a benchmark by handing over required number of toilets at various locations, thanks to the level of involvement of its employees, execution strategies and leadership that the company has been attributed with more often. The 2600-MW Korba Super Thermal Power Station of NTPC in Chhattisgarh is spearheading the cause with construction of 450 toilets in 267 schools in this tribal district.
Twenty seven teams comprising 81 employees of NTPC Korba station have been working 24x7 since the first day to see that these toilets are built adhering to the quality standards and within stipulated time. As a result, 434 toilets have already been handed over to the schools by the first week of August while the rest were to be handed over in the next few days. Well before India celebrated its 69th Independence day, all 450 toilets would be at the disposal of the beneficiaries. According to an estimate, upto Rs1.37 lakh has been earmarked for a toilet including a two-year maintenance cost by the station management.
Completion of the project within time-frame was a challenge as most of the schools are located far away from the station. Getting employees to reach out to those schools and monitor progress of the work at regular intervals, in addition to their core responsibilities, explain the amount of involvement and execution mechanism. Having manpower largely with engineering background was an USP as it helped us ensure quality during execution.
Prakash Tiwari, group general manager, NTPC Korba, has been chosen among the nine ‘ratna’s as part of Swachh Bharat Mission in the district, according to a communique received from the District Administration. Tiwari has been figured along with key personalities for realising this noble cause.
