Sound Awake is the latest electronic dance music festival doing the rounds in Bengaluru. T Venkat Vardhan, Managing Director, DNA Entertainment, chats with Iknoor Kaur on the popularity of EDM in India

Gareth Emery’s recent India tour has made way for more electronic dance music festivals. DNA Entertainment Networks has decided to start their own festival featuring top international and Indian artists. Sound Awake, which will take place on August 4 in Bengaluru, will provide a platform to Indian artists.

T Venkat Vardhan, Managing Director, DNA said, “Our Electronic Dance Music festival caters to the popular demands in music. EDM is constantly evolving. This year it is a one-day festival with 21 DJs and four stages.”

The festival is in collaboration with dance record labels like Ministry of Sound and HedKandi and will be featuring an array of international artists. Some of them are Taboo of The Black Eyed Peas, Darude, Yves larock, The Shapeshifters and Dirty Vegas. There will also be an Indi Stage as well which will feature artists from India.

He shared that their motive was to place Indian artists on the same platform as the international ones. “This festival will give Indian DJs the springboard to eventually perform in festivals around the world,” he said.

However, the fest will not solely be a Bengaluru affair. There will be gigs before the festival by some of the DJs in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
